Here is a list of upcoming expenses at Bustan Qaraaqa/ things we would like to do if we have the money/ books and materials that would be useful to us. If you would like to contribute any of these things to the project/ would like to make a donation to be used specifically for one of these things, please contact us at info@bustanqaraaqa.org, send directly to our PO Box in Jerusalem, or to our UK headquarters (click here for contact details). Please note that cheques are best sent to our UK headquarters as they must be paid in to our UK account.

Upcoming expenses at Bustan Qaraaqa:

Drip Irrigation System for forest garden: 2000 NIS (about £350 or $500)
This system will allow us to maximize efficiency of water use in the forest garden that we plan to plant this autumn/spring, protecting the environment and cutting down our water bill. It will also save us hours of work every day.

Roof for the new eco-building:4000 NIS (about £700 or $1000)
We would like to get a roof onto the new eco-building before the winter if possible to allow additional rainwater harvesting and protect the newly built bottle-and-cob walls. This eco-building will serve as a greenhouse, laundry area, bathroom and kitchen as well as demonstrating eco-building techniques.

Rainwater harvesting system for Abed's place: 3000 NIS (about £500 or $750)
We would like to put a rigid roof over Abed's porch area and install guttering and water tanks to allow rainwater harvesting in the winter. Abed has no piped water at his site and so this system could make a huge difference to him, as well as saving him money.

Water tanks for Bustan Qaraaqa: 1000 NIS (about £175 or $250)
We would like to increase our water storage capacity to allow for additional rainwater harvesting and increased water security in the summer time. Ideally we would like to add 10 cubic metres of storage (each tank holds one cubic metre of water and costs 100 NIS).

Other materials we want:

We are always eager to receive any seeds that people could send us, especially for arid zone crops. In particular we would like to get hold of seeds of Faidherbia albida (a native tree that could be really useful for ecosystem restoration work).

We could also use another computer (lap-top or desktop).

That’s all we can think of for now. Obviously we would also like some gems, silks, solid gold tables and emerald goblets. And marmite! Always marmite!

All contributions appreciated!
